Creating Your First Project
Learn how to create and configure a research project in FieldEco.
What is a Project?
In FieldEco, a Project is a container that organizes all your surveys, observations, and data for a specific research effort. Projects help you:
- Keep data organized by research site or study
- Apply consistent settings across surveys
- Export all related data together
- Track progress over time
Creating a New Project
- Open FieldEco and go to the Projects tab
- Tap the + button or “Create Project”
- Fill in the project details:
Project Information

Project Types
Choose the type that best matches your research:
- Biodiversity Survey - General species inventories
- Ecological Monitoring - Long-term monitoring programs
- Species Inventory - Focused species documentation
- Habitat Assessment - Habitat characterization studies
- Research Project - Academic or scientific research
Project Settings
After creating a project, you can configure additional settings:
Default Survey Settings
- Preferred survey method
- Default taxa groups
- Standard observation fields
Team Settings (Premium)
- Add team members
- Set permissions
- Enable data sharing
Managing Projects
Editing a Project
- Go to Projects tab
- Tap on the project card
- Tap the settings/gear icon
- Make your changes
- Save
Deleting a Project
- Go to Projects tab
- Long-press or swipe the project
- Confirm deletion
Warning: Deleting a project removes all associated surveys and observations. This action cannot be undone.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names - Include location, date range, or study focus
- One project per study - Keep related surveys together
- Add descriptions - Note important details for future reference
- Regular backups - Export your data periodically
